Chinti and Parker...in at number 2

by Naomi

There is nothing more exciting about the changing seasons than the new fashion, especially when that new season means the end of summer and the onset of dark nights and chilly days! I much prefer to dream up new looks and lust over new fashion pieces!

Chinti and Parker is a brand that I discovered in Elle, and is one of my finds of the new season, hence it's place at number 2 in our Top 10 Organic Finds.

The brand launched in October 2009 with the vision of creating versatile luxury wardrobe staples. Organic cotton jersey separates and basics come in three easy-to-wear weights, oh and then there's the Cashmere pieces. Swoon.

Prices start at around £45 for t-shirts and £260 for knitwear, and are available direct from Chinti and Parker as well as a selection of London boutiques.

Facts: Chinti and Parker: luxury womenswear, organic cotton jersey, cashmere, featured in Elle magazine.

Organic beauty find - number 3!

by Naomi

Beauty find alert!!

I have to be honest, I don't often visit 'health stores'. I generally find them confusing/ dingy/ strange smelling and they make me feel guilty for eating food not made from lentils. But these issues are worth putting aside in the quest for great beauty products! I recently stepped foot inside a local health store seeking Calendulon ointment (great for spots, scars and grazes when you fall off your heels!) and was pleasantly surprised to find a great selection of Weleda products.

If you haven't tried any of them out, I thoroughly recommend you start with the Skin Food - it's AMAZING. It is a balm that moisturises lips, hands, elbows, body - pretty much everywhere. It soothes dry skin and is a great nourishing night moisturiser - just be warned a little goes a long way! It is also a great protective cream, so perfect for the harsh winter weather that lies ahead!

Made with organic sunflower seed oil, and extracts of wild pansy, chamomile, calendula and revitalising rosemary extract, it is number 3 in our Top 10 Organic Finds. Priced around £8.50 it could be one of the best beauty buy you make this season!

Available at health stores across the UK and at Weleda.

Get rockin in organic cotton...our number 5

by Naomi

From sturdy jeans and classic shirts to soft jersey tops and summer sundresses, nothing offers us wardrobe versatility like cotton; it washes well, wears well and can be layered and layered and layered and, well you get the picture. So at number 5 in our Top 10 Organic Finds is organic cotton.

Yes it is quite a big one, because buying organic cotton is one of the main things we can do as shoppers to help limit our environmental and social impact. Fortunately there are lots of brands making gorgeous organic pieces, which makes it easy peasy!

People Tree is a great go-to for organic cotton - just check these lovelies!

Fab for autumn, the Organic Cotton Jersey Cardigan is down from £30 to a bargainous £18! I am in love with the Organic Cotton Carrot Leg trousers which have just the right amount of draping (you don't want to look like you're wearing a parachute after all). They are down from £50 to £30. Both are available at Asos.com

And you can add to your winter wardrobe with preppy designs from the recently launched Emma Watson A/W 2010 collection:
Top £26, harem trousers £42.

Organic cotton can be found across lots of other things from swimwear, bed linen to cotton wool, so keep an eye out next time you are doing some retail therapy!

Number 7 is chocolate heaven

by Naomi

An ode to Green & Blacks.
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love your velvety Ice Cream on a warm summer's eve,
devoured with friends, too moreish to leave,
I love to savour each piece of your Caramel bar,
eaten in hiding, too good to share,
I love your creamy Raisin & Hazelnut milk,
nothing compares to that texture like silk,
Your Butterscotch choc with just enough crunch,
is simply the perfect thing to munch,
I love that you care for your people and beans,
and I especially love what all this means:
chocolate delights that taste so sublime,
they instantly make me busrt out in rhyme!

Yes, at number 7 in our Top 10 Organic Finds is the wonderful Green & Blacks organic chocolate heaven. Organically grown cocoa, fairly farmed and wrapped in recycled packaging, available in stores nationwide.
Buy it. Devour it. Give it to your friends and family.

Facts: Green & Blacks chocolate: organic, fairly traded, recycled packaging, bl**dy yummy!

Soft and smooth... it's no 8!

by Lorna

Wandering London’s Broadway Market today I found an absolute gem! Number 8 in our Top 10 Organic Finds is Shea Alchemy- a small natural beauty products company who LOVE shea butter and make lots of luscious creams and potions from it. It comes from the nut of the Karite tree which grows wild in Africa. In its unrefined, pure form it is a brilliant skin moisturizer and healer- excellent for dry skin, wrinkles and eczema.

The butter is bought from a Fairtrade women’s co-operative in Ghana and mixed up with lots of gorgeous organic and natural ingredients: Acwellsyke spring water which they get direct from the founder Sally's cousin’s farm in Rockingham Forest, organic cocoa butter, aloe vera, calendula, blackseed oil, horse chestnut extract and apricot kernel oil, as well as vitamins E & A! It naturally contains no parabens, no sulphates, no petroleum products, and there is no animal testing. As they are a small company (and plan to stay that way), all the products are cooked up by experimenting in kitchens and this means there is no middle man and no store mark-ups! With products from £6.50- £25 we likee!

And with a glowing write up in Marie Claire this week, who are we to disagree?! "We’re a little bit smitten with Shea Alchemy’s dinky little pots, especially its organic geranium Intense Hand Cream. Family-run with lots of heart, every product in the small range gets our thumbs-up – and we reckon no handbag is complete without one of these hand creams hidden inside."
Buy online or at various farmers and green markets around the UK. Check out their website here.

Facts: Shea Alchemy: natural, organic, shea butter, beauty creams, no parabens, no sulphates, no petroleum products, no animal testing.

Nifty little number 9

by Naomi

Transeasonal is the new black.

With our ever-unpredictable climate, investment pieces that can be worn all year round are style saviours. So please bow down in awe of this heavenly creation by Annie Greenabelle, which is number 9 in our Top 10 Organic Finds

Powder grey, black and black-striped panels of soft organic cotton are cut into a chic, timeless and oh-so-wearable babydoll. It is light enough for warm weather (I'm thinking white plimsolls and a panama hat) and can then be layered with long-sleeve vests, chunky-knit tights, (perhaps even slim-leg trousers?) and a jacket for an autumn/winter look that will work for the office and the weekend. It could even be worn with heels and some statement jewellery for a casual evening look. Is there anything that this dress can't do?!

At £57 this is a serious cost-per-wear bargain that could well become a wardrobe staple! Grab it online at Ascension.

Go organic, with our Top 10!

by Naomi

With the Soil Association's Organic Fortnight coming up (September 3-17), I figured it's my duty to all aspiring eco goddesses (ourselves included) to discover some of the best organic products out there.

Obviously eating organic food is one of the biggest contributions we can make, particularly as research has suggested that pesticides are causing a decline in the bee population. But the eco goddess cannot live on bread alone, and buying organic in other areas is just as important.

Over the coming weeks I will be listing my Top 10 Organic Finds, so if you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them! Simply email me at ecogoddess@live.co.uk

At number 10 is:

Organic Surge Hand & Nail Cream.
After my post on Mavala nail polishes, I have been on an additional quest to find great eco hand and nail products. The guys at BigGreenSmile.com were kind enough to send me a sample of the Gentle Meadow fragrance and it's B-E-A-Uuutiful.
It is 91% organic and naturally derived ingredients, and moisturises wonderfully without being greasy. The lavender and geranium essential oils make you feel like you could be in a meadow somewhere (even if it is grey outside) and more importantly - the bees are kept happy! At £3.91 a pop it's a bargain, and Organic Surge does lots of other lovely looking beauty products, which make great little gifts.

PS. BigGreenSmile.com is a great website in itself, with hundreds of green products, so check it out!
