Mermaidalicious locks ahoy!

by Naomi

Ok, so I know I'm using more than a little artistic license with the title, but hey if it's good enough for Destiny's Child then it's good enough for me!

If, like me, you spent your younger years (and not so young years) dreaming of having luscious long locks like those pesky Disney mermaids then the Body Shop's new Rainforest Haircare range is for you!

Depending on your hair type you can choose from Shine, Balance, Radiance and Moisture. There are shampoos, conditioners, a leave in conditioning spray, a conditioning treatment and a collection of brushes made from bamboo - woohoo!
They contain no silicones, sulphates, parabens or colourants, which are in a lot of shampoos and can leave your hair looking limp and dull. They do contain natural oils and community trade sugar. The Body Shop says the collection is respectful to the aquatic environment, biodegradable and uses packaging containing recycled materials wherever practical.

Prices start from £2 (£4 or £6 for the shampoos and conditioners depending on size) and the range is buy one, get one 1/2 price online until August 12 - roll on payday! After all, who needs an underwater treasure trove and bra made of shells when you've got these?!

Facts: Body Shop Rainforest Haircare: no silicones, sulphates, parabens or colourants; recycled packaging, biodegradable, natural oils and community trade ingredients.

The Great FAshion Cycle... London to PAris!

By Lorna
Whilst scoping out new luscious eco brands at the Clothes Show in December I had the pleasure of bumping into Larissa from the EJF (Environmental Justice Foundation) who told me about this ‘‘amazing experience’’ which I "should DEFINITELY get involved in’’.

When she asked me to cycle 300 miles between two of the greatest fashion capitals of the world for one of the most active charities campaigning for human rights in the fashion industry, the only answer I could stutter was."..um.. sure?!"

Not one to shy away from a challenge, I got home late that night and signed up. I awoke the following morning in a slight panic thinking "what the hell have I let myself in for??!!" Setting aside the fact that I had not sat on a bike since I was young enough to play kiss-chase, I didn’t even OWN a bike or have any idea how I was going to raise the min sponsorship of £1300!! Eeks!!

Fast-forward 6 months, throw in some major support from amazing friends, family and colleagues, 1 cupcake sale, 2 car-boots, 15 training sessions, a few sleepless nights, and I was raring to go!!
Call me naive, but I had a romantic image of cycling gently through beautiful French rolling hills, stopping to sip cappuccinos and wave to local farmers. Little did I realise this ‘multiple marathon’ would involve cycling the steepest hills known to man (well... to me!), against 50km head on winds and through multiple rain storms. Luckily the weather did eventually improve and the beautiful scenery took our minds off the distance!
Despite the leg muscle pain, punctures, sore bums, and all else we endured on the cycle, I met some really inspirational lovely people, did something I can be proud of and raised lots of money for an amazing cause. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me along the ride! Your generosity honestly got me to the top of each and every steep hill!
EJF is committed to eradicating child labour and the deadliest pesticides from cotton production and promoting organic alternatives. To get involved in an amazing experience for an incredible cause, sign up for next years Great Fashion Cycle by emailing Larissa at larissa.clark@ejfoundation.org

Sale time!

by Naomi

Nothing makes a slightly damp and grey week seem brighter than a great sale!

Prompted by my recent holiday, I have picked out some Cote D'Azur inspired finds: think French riviera chic, sophisticated and versatile but with a playful summer vibe.

This dress and cardi combo by Lowie is perfect for cool summer and autumn days. Made from finely knitted organic cotton, the elasticated waist and striped collar on the dress are flattering and feminine (£158 to £79). The cardi (£95) is the perfect partner!

I love this stripy tie top (£98 to £49), also by Lowie, which can be teamed with these beautiful sandals by vegan brand Beyond Skin (£135 to £71) for a look that epitomises eco cool summer-casual.

OK, so it's not on sale, but it is gorgeous! My lust-have item of the season is this beautiful silk blue band panama by Pachacuti. At £122 it may make your purse cower in fear, but it is rollable (comes with instructions and the optional extra of a box) meaning you will never again have to suffer the how-the-heck-do-I-pack-this-hat holiday dilemma!

Furthermore, Pachacuti works with women's cooperatives in Ecuador, ensuring Fair Trade and supporting pensions, developments, education and healthcare initiatives. It uses sustainable raw materials, minimises waste, and doesn't use harmful chemicals in the production process. What more could you ask for?!
